China's Ex-FDA Head To Go On Trial For Corruption

Law360, New York (May 9, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The former head of China’s State Food and Drug Administration will go on trial Tuesday of next week for allegedly taking bribes to approve untested medicines and loosen quality checks in the country.

The Beijing No.1 Intermediate People’s Court will try Zheng Xiaoyu and his former secretary, Cao Wenzhuang, on charges that they conspired to take bribes and severely abandoned their duties.

Zheng, the country’s top drug watchdog for eight years, was removed from his post in June 2005. In December 2006, the government began investigating...
