'Aggressive' Tax Deals Not Illegal, J&G Attys Argue

Law360, New York (May 10, 2011, 7:58 PM EDT) -- Attorneys for former Jenkens & Gilchrist PC lawyers accused of selling illegal tax shelters told jurors in closing arguments in New York on Tuesday that their clients did nothing wrong by helping the wealthy with "aggressive" financial strategies.

"We live in America, where in order to be convicted of a crime you have to know you're doing something wrong," said Charles B. Sklarsky of Jenner & Block LLP, who delivered a closing in Manhattan federal court for defendant Paul Daugerdas.
