Regulators Step Up Inspections At Ala. Nuclear Plant

Law360, New York (May 10, 2011, 3:28 PM EDT) -- U.S. regulators said Tuesday they would escalate oversight of a Tennessee Valley Authority nuclear plant in Alabama after uncovering serious defects with a cooling system that would be vital during emergency situations.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission said safety threats at the Browns Ferry nuclear plant in Athens, Ala., were significant enough to warrant a red-level inspection finding, the highest rating possible.
