EnerVest Sued Over Mercury Leakage

Law360, New York (May 10, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A coalition of environmental groups has sued a natural gas well operator in northern Louisiana for using leaky mercury meters that allegedly contaminate nearby bodies of water.

According to the complaint, which was filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, EnerVest Operating LLC equips about 600 of its 4,000 natural gas wells with mercury meters, which hold about eight pounds of mercury each.
