American, Qantas Seek Antitrust OK For Collaboration

Law360, New York (May 12, 2011, 3:04 PM EDT) -- American Airlines Inc. and Qantas Airways Ltd. said Wednesday that they were seeking antitrust approval for a strategic partnership that would allow the airlines to collaborate on services among Australia, New Zealand and the U.S.

Qantas said it had already filed an application for authorization of the deal with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and will make a similar filing with the New Zealand minister of transport. The companies also said the U.S. Department of Transportation will review the deal.
