EPA Seeks Fracking Waste Info From Pa. Gas Cos.

Law360, New York (May 13, 2011, 1:46 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said Friday that it had ordered six of Pennsylvania's largest natural gas drillers to disclose more information about their methods for disposing of fluids used in hydraulic fracturing.

The directive comes on the heels of a study released Monday that documented systematic evidence that fracking can cause methane contamination of drinking water. The EPA said knowing how drilling companies dispose of or recycle the fluids used in fracking is necessary to ensure safe and responsible drilling, and to protect public health...
