SG Nominee Verrilli Clears Senate Judiciary Committee

Law360, New York (May 12, 2011, 9:18 PM EDT) -- President Barack Obama's pick for U.S. Solicitor General, former Jenner & Block LLP partner and Deputy White House Counsel Donald Verrilli Jr., cleared a hurdle in his confirmation and won bipartisan support Thursday in a Senate Judiciary Committee vote.

The committee voted 17-1 to recommend Verrilli's confirmation to the full Senate, following a contentious March hearing over the nominee's views on the solicitor general's independence. Verrilli is seeking to succeed Neal Katyal, who became acting solicitor general to replace Elena Kagan upon her confirmation to the U.S....
