Florida Corrections Dept. Locked Into FLSA Suit

Law360, New York (May 11, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A putative collective action lawsuit has been filed against the Florida Department of Corrections, alleging it violated federal law by failing to pay its hourly wage correctional officers a premium rate for overtime hours.

The suit was filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida on behalf of named plaintiff Eugene Smith, who worked for the Department of Corrections in Miami from September 2004 until January 2007.
