Salazar Pushes For Drilling Permit, Safety Reform

Law360, New York (May 17, 2011, 6:33 PM EDT) -- U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar on Tuesday recommended legislative measures to improve safety and efficiency of drilling operations in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and refuted claims that offshore oil exploration was stymied by a slow permitting process.

Salazar made a number of recommendations to a U.S. Senate committee, including a call for Congress to pass legislation affirming the safety standards imposed by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement in the aftermath of last year’s spill.
