Sen. Reid Moves For Vote On Liu 9th Circ. Nomination

Law360, New York (May 17, 2011, 10:35 PM EDT) -- A key Senate vote on Goodwin Liu, President Barack Obama's pick for the Ninth Circuit bench, may come as soon as Thursday after Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., filed a motion Tuesday to close debate on the controversial nomination.

Reid's motion would need 60 votes to pass, a tough feat since Democrats control only 53 seats in the U.S. Senate and Republicans have branded Liu, a University of California law professor, as far outside the mainstream of American jurisprudence and have accused him of judicial activism....
