Revise Pain-Med Dosing Tips For Children: FDA Panels

Law360, New York (May 18, 2011, 5:20 PM EDT) -- U.S. Food and Drug Administration advisory panels on Wednesday backed expanded dosing instructions for over-the-counter acetaminophen products administered to children, changes that supporters say will promote safer use of the drugs and reduce confusion.

In two 21-to-0 votes, the FDA's Nonprescription Drugs Advisory Committee and Pediatric Advisory Committee recommended adding dosing instructions for children between 6 months and 2 years old, as well as new, weight-based dosing directions to the existing, age-based directions for children between the ages of 2 and 12.
