Va. Lawmakers Ask DOJ To Rethink Poultry Deal Suit

Law360, New York (May 19, 2011, 2:32 PM EDT) -- Virginia state legislators asked the U.S. Department of Justice on Wednesday to consider withdrawing its antitrust suit challenging George's Inc.'s purchase of a Tyson Foods Inc. plant in Harrisonburg, Va., saying the suit will likely hurt the local economy.

Seven lawmakers representing Virginia's Shenandoah Valley sent U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder a letter saying that reversing George's recently completed $3 million purchase of Tyson's chicken processing facility would hurt poultry growers, plant employees and consumers.
