US Mandates Health Insurance Rate Hike Reviews

Law360, New York (May 19, 2011, 6:53 PM EDT) -- Enacting a provision of the nationwide health care overhaul law, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services issued a final rule Thursday that will require certain health insurance rate increases to be scrutinized by independent experts.

The new regulation will require independent experts to review any proposed increase of 10 percent or more for most small group and individual plans as of Sept. 1.
