Battle Over Digital TV Patents Heats Up

Law360 (May 14, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Florida-based transmitter manufacturer on Friday filed a lawsuit against Rembrandt Technologies, alleging the patent-holding company's refusal to license its digital television patents constitutes a breach of contract.

In the suit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Harris Corp. accused Rembrandt Technologies LP of refusing to fairly license its patent for the transmission of HDTV digital television signals. Harris claims that Rembrandt’s refusal to license its patent on fair, reasonable and nondiscriminatory or FRAND terms constitutes a breach of contract....
