Protectionism Sparks New G-20 Trade Barriers: Report

Law360, New York (May 24, 2011, 3:53 PM EDT) -- The World Trade Organization and others said Tuesday that the world's largest economies have been introducing more trade barriers in recent months, under pressure from persistently high levels of unemployment, rising food prices and geopolitical tensions.

New import restrictions imposed by G-20 governments over the past six months cover approximately 0.6 percent of total G-20 imports, according to a joint report by the WTO, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.
