Travelers Fails To Limit Liability For $16M Trash Suit

Law360, New York (May 26, 2011, 3:28 PM EDT) -- Travelers Casualty and Surety Co. of America lost a bid to limit its coverage liability in a $16 million suit by Rhode Island's trash agency Wednesday, when a federal judge ruled that alleged ongoing corruption could be treated as multiple losses.


The Rhode Island Resources Recovery Corp., which handles the state's trash disposal, sued its insurer in March 2010, seeking a declaration that Travelers should cover employee thefts after a state audit revealed that tens of millions of dollars had been squandered and stolen. The...
