Germany Vows Tighter Merger Control For Gas Industry

Law360, New York (May 26, 2011, 4:58 PM EDT) -- Germany's antitrust watchdog vowed Thursday to block deals that would further concentrate the country's gas station market and to launch cases against a number of competition violations turned up by a new sector report.

The German Cartel Office criticized the hold that five energy companies have over the country's gas stations, saying that market structure allowed the companies to keep prices high without having to actually agree to set rates.
