Texas Legislature Sends Tort Reform Bill To Governor

Law360, New York (May 26, 2011, 7:44 PM EDT) -- The Texas House of Representatives approved a bill that creates a so-called loser pays legal system Wednesday, sending the legislation to Gov. Rick Perry, who is expected to sign the tort reform measure into law.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Brandon Creighton, R-Conroe, would make it easier for civil lawsuits to be dismissed earlier, award attorneys' fees to a winning party barring a previous agreement over fees between the parties and create an expedited process for civil suits seeking less than $100,000.
