Irving Oil Must Give Up Gas Terminals, Pipeline: FTC

Law360, Los Angeles (May 26, 2011, 10:11 PM EDT) -- The Federal Trade Commission said Thursday that to avoid stifling competition, Irving Oil Terminals Inc. and Irving Oil Ltd. should give up rights to two Maine petroleum terminals and the 124-mile pipeline connecting them that the companies snagged from Exxon Mobil Corp. in 2009.

The FTC’s proposed order heralds a muscular effort by the federal government to insure a competitive fuel marketplace at a time of heightened consumer fears about rising prices at the pump.
