Doha Round To Focus On 3rd World Aid, Lamy Says

Law360, Washington (May 31, 2011, 5:15 PM EDT) -- World Trade Organization Director-General Pascal Lamy said Tuesday that an aid package for the world’s least-developed countries was the fast-track priority in the Doha Development Round of economic talks for December’s ministerial conference.

However, agriculture, nonagricultural market access, services, trade remedies and intellectual property “are not considered to be achievable by then,” Lamy said during an informal meeting of the WTO Trade Negotiations Committee.

Producing a partial outcome in December should not mean the remaining issues should be ditched, and the WTO’s routine work remains valuable...
