WIPO Debates Global Trademark Rules

Law360 (May 16, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The World Intellectual Property Organization has noted that member countries currently have no obligation to protect new types of trademarks, such as holograms and colors, and are unspecific about what documentation is needed to register them.

The issue was raised during a debate of a number of topical trademark and industrial design issues at a meeting of WIPO’s Standing Committee on the Law of Trademarks, Industrial Designs and Geographical Indications in Geneva, Switzerland.
