Obama Administration Backs House Patent Reform Bill

Law360, New York (June 1, 2011, 5:46 PM EDT) -- The Obama administration on Tuesday backed pending patent reform legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives, saying the current version of the bill promises to strengthen patent rights and finally grant the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office the authority to set its own fees.

Congress has been working on some version of comprehensive patent reform for more than six years, but has been frequently stymied by the difficulties involved in balancing a host of competing interests.
