Nokia Sues Spanish, French Rivals Over Patented GSM, GPRS Technology

Law360, New York (November 4, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- In one of the first moves of the company’s new licensing unit, Finnish mobile handset maker Nokia Corp. has filed patent infringement lawsuits against two rivals, Sagem of France and Vitelcom of Spain, over GSM and GPRS technologies.

Nokia said Thursday the lawsuits are “European complaints,” but did not specify in what jurisdiction the complaints had been filed.

The complaints seek injunctions against the continued sale and marketing of the rivals’ mobile phone products covered by the patents, as well as monetary damages, Nokia said in...
