Obama's SG Pick Confirmed With Bipartisan Support

Law360, New York (June 6, 2011, 6:54 PM EDT) -- Donald Verrilli Jr., a former Jenner & Block LLP partner and deputy White House counsel, was confirmed as U.S. solicitor general Monday, receiving bipartisan support in the U.S. Senate after addressing concerns about his views on the office's independence.

The Senate confirmed Verrilli by a vote of 72-16, filling a vacancy created when U.S. Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan ascended to the nation's high court. Verrilli will succeed acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal, who filled the spot following Kagan's departure.
