Dutch Court Enjoins Greenpeace Arctic Oil Protest

Law360, New York (June 9, 2011, 5:11 PM EDT) -- A Dutch judge issued an injunction Thursday that would fine Greenpeace €50,000 ($72,000) per day if it continued its efforts to block Cairn Energy PLC's oil drilling activities off the coast of Greenland.

Greenpeace has engaged in a six-week protest over Cairn's plans to drill up to four wells in the Arctic Ocean over the summer, and 20 activists have been arrested after efforts that included climbing aboard Cairn's drilling rig.
