National Grid Settles Mass. Storm Response Row For $1M

Law360, New York (June 8, 2011, 4:48 PM EDT) -- The Massachusetts attorney general's office on Tuesday announced a $1 million settlement with National Grid PLC over alleged failings in the utility's response to a Dec. 26 storm that left more than 113,000 customers in the state without power.

A state investigation found that National Grid intentionally misclassified the intensity of the winter storm, leading to a delayed response and poor communication with municipalities, the office said, noting that the agreement includes a mix of funding for training, charitable contributions and service improvements.
