Pfizer Unit Yanks Poultry Drug After FDA Arsenic Study

Law360, New York (June 8, 2011, 4:10 PM EDT) -- Pfizer Inc. subsidiary Alpharma LLC on Wednesday agreed to suspend U.S. sales of poultry drug 3-Nitro after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration detected higher levels of inorganic arsenic in the livers of chickens that had taken the drug.

“We are pleased to announce that the company is cooperating with us to protect the public health,” FDA Deputy Commissioner for Foods Michael R. Taylor said Wednesday.
