EU Raids Auto Safety System Suppliers In Cartel Probe

Law360, New York (June 9, 2011, 3:20 PM EDT) -- The European Commission confirmed Thursday that inspectors had raided the offices of several suppliers of automotive safety systems seeking evidence of possible anti-competitive conduct.

Europe's competition watchdog said officials began their unannounced inspections Tuesday, visiting companies that supply car seat belts, airbags and steering wheels accompanied by their counterparts from the relevant national competition authority.

"The commission has reason to believe that the companies concerned may have violated EU antitrust rules that prohibit cartels and restrictive business practices," the agency said in a statement Thursday....
