Humira Patient Sues Abbott Over Fungal Infection

Law360, New York (June 13, 2011, 5:01 PM EDT) -- A Tennessee man filed suit Sunday against Abbott Laboratories, claiming he was nearly killed by a fungal infection that was exacerbated by the company’s blockbuster arthritis drug Humira.

The suit also alleges that Abbott had already been alerted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration about an increased risk for histoplasmosis fungal infections associated with Humira, which partially suppresses a patient's immune system, but that the drug company didn’t relay the warnings to patients quickly enough.
