UK Competition Commission Backs OFT Merger Plans

Law360, New York (June 14, 2011, 1:12 PM EDT) -- The U.K. Competition Commission on Tuesday backed the British government's proposal to create a single competition authority by merging the commission with the competition wing of Office of Fair Trading, while urging that the strengths of the current system be preserved.

In a formal response to the March proposal, the commission said a merged competition regulator will lead to a more effective use of resources, and will likely reduce burdens on businesses.
