EU Committee Calls For Wider Detergent Phosphate Ban

Law360, New York (June 15, 2011, 7:14 PM EDT) -- A European Parliament committee on Wednesday recommended expanding a proposed ban on phosphates in laundry detergents to include household dishwasher detergents, part of an ongoing effort to boost water quality in the European Union.

The European Commission had decided not to outlaw phosphates in detergents for automatic dishwashers or those used by professional launderers, saying in November that no economical alternatives to the products were available throughout Europe.
