WTO Upholds Philippines Win In Cigarette Tax Dispute

Law360, New York (June 17, 2011, 3:03 PM EDT) -- The World Trade Organization's appellate body on Friday issued a report upholding a panel's decision that Thailand's fiscal and customs policies unfairly taxed cigarettes from the Philippines.

In a November report, the dispute settlement body ruled overwhelmingly in favor of the Philippines, which primarily took issue with the way Thailand determines the value of imported cigarettes, prompting the country to appeal some of the panel's findings.
