Ship Engineer Gets 6 Months In Oil Discharge Case

Law360, New York (June 17, 2011, 4:20 PM EDT) -- A federal judge in Maryland on Thursday sentenced a ship engineer to six months in prison for his role in obstructing a federal investigation into the illegal discharge of oily waste from a shipping vessel that had docked in Baltimore.

Dimitrios Grifakis, 57, of Kallithea, Greece, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Marvin J. Garbis, and will serve two years of supervised release in addition to prison time, according to prosecutors.
