States Balk At EPA Push For Water Nutrient Limits

Law360, New York (June 24, 2011, 4:22 PM EDT) -- Regulators from Florida, North Carolina and other states on Friday fought the U.S. government's push for numeric limits on phosphorus and nitrogen in water, urging a congressional panel not to use a one-size-fits-all approach to police the nutrients.

Several officials acknowledged that nutrients can pollute drinking water, but said numeric limits would not be the best way to regulate them, speaking at a hearing of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's water resources and the environment subcommittee.
