House To Debate Diversion Of USPTO Fees

Law360, New York (June 21, 2011, 8:42 PM EDT) -- The question of whether the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office should be allowed to keep all the application fees it collects will take center stage this week as the U.S. House of Representatives debates the long-stalled patent reform bill.

The version of patent reform legislation passed by the U.S. Senate 95-5 in March included language giving the USPTO access to all of the fees it collects, bringing to an end Congress' controversial practice of diverting a portion of application fees to other government programs.
