House Panel OKs Bill To Let States Set Water Rules

Law360, New York (June 23, 2011, 7:47 PM EDT) -- The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on Wednesday approved a bill that would increase states’ authority to set their own water quality standards and reduce the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s powers under the Clean Water Act.

The panel voted 35-20 in favor of H.R. 2018, the Clean Water Cooperative Federalism Act of 2011, which supporters say will restore a balance between EPA and state oversight of water regulations.
