House Bill Aims To Add 38 Judges Across Southwest

Law360, New York (June 27, 2011, 6:34 PM EDT) -- Rep. Ruben Hinojosa, D-Texas, introduced a bill Friday in the U.S. House of Representatives that would add 38 new permanent judgeships and seven temporary judgeships to overburdened federal district courts in four U.S. states along the Mexican border.

H. 2365, the Southwest Border Judgeship Expansion Act, would add 10 permanent judgeships in Texas alone, and bolster the federal benches in Arizona, California and New Mexico as well, according to Hinojosa.
