Court Lets Stand $2.5B Ruling Against Exxon

Law360 (May 23, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A U.S. appeals court has denied Exxon Mobil Corp.’s petition to rehear a case over how much it should pay fishermen and other Alaskans for the 1989 Valdez tanker spill.

“A judge of the court called for a vote on whether to rehear the matter en banc,” the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit wrote Wednesday. “The matter failed to receive a majority of votes of the nonrecused active judges in favor of en banc consideration.”

Unless Exxon Mobil appeals the $2.5 billion verdict...
