Pfizer Fights Aurobindo's Bid To Sell Generic Lipitor

Law360, Los Angeles (June 28, 2011, 7:20 PM EDT) -- Pfizer Inc. struck Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. with a suit in Delaware on Monday seeking to block the generic-drug maker's version of Lipitor, continuing its ongoing battle to maintain exclusive rights to sell the cholesterol-lowering drug.

Pfizer, which has sued numerous generics makers over Lipitor, argues that patents covering the name brand drug grant it exclusive production rights until 2017. Lipitor is one of the best selling medications on the market, with annual sales of approximately $7 billion, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration....
