Guest Worker Program Escapes Expiration Date

Law360, New York (May 24, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A day after U.S. senators moved to slash the guest worker program, the controversial provision of the newly proposed immigration bill has narrowly withstood an attempt to dilute its power with an expiration date.

On Thursday, the Senate voted down the so-called sunset proposal by a vote of 49 to 48, temporarily killing a measure that would have put a five-year expiration date on the temporary worker plan.
