Applera Sues Gene Research Rivals On Same Day Patent Is Granted

Law360, New York (November 14, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- Medical device maker Applera Corp. wasted no time in enforcing its new patent for equipment used to analyze genes, filing infringement lawsuits against rivals Stratagene Corp. and Bio-Rad Laboratories on the same day that it received the patent.

Applera, the world’s largest maker of gene research equipment, was awarded the patent on Tuesday of last week and filed the lawsuit on the same day in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut.
