Conn. Paid Sick Leave Mandate Signed Into Law

Law360, New York (July 5, 2011, 8:09 PM EDT) -- Connecticut will become the first state to require certain service-industry businesses to offer employees paid sick leave, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced Tuesday after signing a controversial bill that will affect hundreds of thousands of workers in the state.

The new law, set to take effect in 2012, will require service-industry businesses with 50 or more employees to offer one hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked, up to 40 hours a year. Paid sick leave laws pushed in states and cities around...
