China To Amend Rare Earth Policy After WTO Ruling

Law360, New York (July 6, 2011, 4:10 PM EDT) -- The Chinese government plans to modify its controversial rare earth export regulations based in part on international trade law, a government official said Wednesday after a World Trade Organization panel criticized similar restrictions on raw material exports.

While China's Ministry of Commerce said it disagreed with the panel's findings that rejected arguments that the raw materials measures were designed to conserve scarce resources and limit pollution, the agency is still evaluating the ruling and deciding on its next steps.
