Ex-Oil Refinery Veep Admits To Causing Toxic Gas Leak

Law360, New York (July 6, 2011, 9:58 PM EDT) -- The vice president of a Louisiana oil refinery pled guilty Wednesday to criminal charges under the Clean Air Act for releasing toxic gases from what was allegedly a poorly-run refinery that stored leaked petroleum in children's swimming pools.

Byron Hamilton of the Pelican Refining Co. pled guilty to negligent endangerment for causing the release of benzene, ethylbenzene, toluene, xylene and hydrogen sulfide from the company's facility in Lake Charles, La.

Hamilton faces up to one year in prison and a $200,000 fine for each violation, according...
