Law360, New York (July 11, 2011, 1:33 PM EDT) -- The United States Environmental Protection Agency has long used its criminal enforcement authority to seek the strongest sanctions against what it considers to be more egregious environmental polluters. According to the EPA, criminal environmental cases "are critical to deter potential violators, eliminate the temptation for companies to 'pay to pollute,' and implement the felony provisions of our nation's environmental laws."
