Federal Worker Discrimination Claims Rose In 2010: EEOC

By Ben James (July 8, 2011, 4:41 PM EDT) -- Employment discrimination complaints against the federal government increased nearly 4 percent during the last fiscal year, and the amount of money paid out to complainants grew as well, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said Wednesday in a report.

Federal employees and job applicants lodged 17,583 discrimination complaints during the 2010 fiscal year, an increase of 3.75 percent, according to an EEOC annual report on the federal workforce. Those complaints came from 16,480 individuals. 

As with private sector discrimination claims, retaliation was the most frequently asserted type of allegation, and grew 2.7 percent from the prior fiscal year. Age and race...
