GAO, Sens. Call For EPA To Ramp Up Drinking Water Regs

Law360, New York (July 12, 2011, 3:02 PM EDT) -- During a sometimes-heated Senate hearing Tuesday, a U.S. Government Accountability Office official and several lawmakers said federal environmental regulators have failed to fully protect children and other sensitive people from unregulated contaminants in drinking water.

The hearing followed the Tuesday release of a GAO report revealing that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency failed to adequately consider regulating contaminants that posed the greatest public health risks.
