Greencore To Buy Rival Uniq For $180M

Law360, New York (July 12, 2011, 3:47 PM EDT) -- Irish convenience food producer Greencore Foods Ltd. said Tuesday it has reached a deal to buy British rival Uniq PLC for ₤113 million ($180 million).

The deal follows Greencore's failed attempt to snag another British rival in Northern Foods PLC. Greencore abandoned plans to merge with Northern Foods in March, declining to submit a renewed bid for the company after its initial proposal was trumped in January by a ₤342 million ($545 million) takeover offer from chicken magnate Ranjit Singh Boparan.
