Task Force Urges NRC To Revamp Regulatory 'Patchwork'

Law360, New York (July 13, 2011, 2:41 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission should reform its checkered system for regulating nuclear plants, and require license holders to revamp emergency response plans and update flood and earthquake protections, a task force created after a nuclear catastrophe in Japan said Tuesday.

The NRC formed the seven-member task force four months ago to review the agency's processes and regulations in light of the March 11 earthquake that eventually led to a meltdown at Japan's Fukushima Daiichi plant.
