EU Launches Antitrust Probe Of Czech Power Co.

Law360, New York (July 15, 2011, 12:30 PM EDT) -- Nearly two years after raiding CEZ AS over antitrust worries, the European Commission opened a formal probe Friday into whether the Czech utility has illegally tried to keep would-be rivals from entering the country's electricity market.

The European Union's antitrust watchdog said it was looking into whether the country's incumbent electricity producer had abused its dominance by thwarting competitors' efforts to join the Czech wholesale electricity market by "hoarding ... capacity in the transmission network."
